Sea Otter 4 Walk Right Out To Sand Surf

What a find! Walk out the front door, down some stairs, and you're right on the beach. Could not have been closer. Beach was clean and public was well-behaved. Small kitchen with basic utensils allowed us to enjoy meals and beverages on the porch.

The location and view are definitely the highlights of this beach house — you really can’t beat the scenery. Unfortunately, the stay itself didn’t live up to expectations. The house is advertised for four people, but with three adults, a toddler, and a baby, it felt very cramped. The bathroom is directly next to the dining table, which was awkward. The kitchen was missing basics like a blender and grill tongs,m. Cleanliness was also disappointing — the floors were sticky and clearly hadn’t been mopped properly in some time (not just sand,, I totally get that). The forks and some other kitchen utensils were unproperly washed and just put away. The blanket on the sofa had an unpleasant odor, though thankfully I brought my own. Another challenge was temperature: the bedroom were noticeably warmer than the living room. Overall, while the view and location are great, the house itself could use more attention to cleanliness, kitchen essentials

A great place right on the sand. Parking was a little tight, a lot of sand in the parking lot, had to put my truck in 4 wheel drive to park. Other than that the place was great.

The 979 Crew communicated very well prior to our stay and during our stay. The Sea Otter is the best location we’ve stayed at in Surfside! The area was safe for our toddler. Deck area was private for each tenant. The only recommendation I would have is a defined parking lot. If we didn’t have a 4x4 truck we would’ve been stuck in the sand. It was 4th of July weekend and there was not enough parking space for the tenants. Other people tried to block us in and use the parking area too. We would have liked parking space in front of the house on the beach for our truck or golf cart, but parking space is open to the public on the beach. Otherwise, the Sea Otter is in a great location where you walk a few steps (literally) to the beach. Two restaurants are a short walk down the beach too! We will definitely return to Sea Otter! Best thing about the rental is the location. Right on the beach! Everything was as described in the listing and the owner went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. When an issue arose that was out of their control, they were right on it. My only suggestion is that if you expect to sleep 4 ppl you bring an air mattress or cots. The futon is not enough space for 1 much less 2 ppl and it is very very uncomfortable to even sit on much less sleep on. The main bed is comfortable. Thank you for everything

Love staying here when we go to Surfside. We have stayed at this address 3 times now in 2 different units. No shoes necessary to get to beach! Walk down the stairs from the unit, and you are on the beach. We always stay in the lower units … not the top ones. The porches on the lower units get the shade from the units above them. The kitchen supplies aren’t great. We bring our own sharp knives, frying pan and ziplock bags or storage containers. The space is minimal and functional. Just what I want for the beach, frankly. Bed was really, really comfortable and we slept great each night. Great location. Best location on Surfside, IMO. The beach is much less crowded here compared to the locations closer to the bridge. And there are 2 restaurants walking distance as well as ice cream shop even closer. 979 properties is very responsive. Never had any problems with them.

The location was awesome! This is a unit out of 6, so you don’t get the whole place to yourself. The futon is not the comfiest. Other than that I enjoyed my stay here and the walkway to the beach was amazing.

One of our favorite beachfront destinations. The decks are large, with beautiful views, ample seating, and both sunny and shady areas. From the deck, guests can walk right out onto the sand (public beach, often crowded at peak times but still nice). The rooms are modest and basic yet appropriate for the price (though summer prices are getting a bit high). AC, appliances, TV, bed, linens, all seemed good. If using the futon for extra sleeping space, be aware that it is neither very big nor particularly comfortable. The shower is also not very spacious but serves its purpose (if you're ok with the tap water's slight odor). Be aware that the local water supply has rated poorly in past years. I have seen no recent advisories posted on Airbnb or from local authorities, so perhaps it has improved? But there is still a noticeable smell, and I personally would not consume it. I am not blaming management for the poor tap water, but I wanted to advise guests to bring their own drinking water.

Awesome site on the beach. Lots of walking in both directions plus the jetty. Small but good for two people. Close to Galveston and Lake Jackson.

my wife and I had a wonderful experience for a weekend stay. Even though it was off season, it was comfortable and enjoyable. The shower was a little small, but very functional. the kitchen sink was leaking out of the spray nozzle, which we covered with a towel, but other than that everything worked perfectly. would definitely stay again!

Everything about this stay was great! There were some reviews mentioning the shower being “too small” and while it was small, that’s not something that is fixable or worth complaining about. We woke up to the sounds of the ocean waves and got to watch the sunrise while walking the beach. At night we had a comfortable bed and clean bedding. All was perfect.

This was my 3rd stay at unit 4. It is a perfect location right on the beach!!! IT is bare minimum though, bring EVERYTHING! In addition, you may need to bring some air fresheners.

Refrigerator made loud noise at startup. Oven lower elements do not work. Staircase lower railing loose and some of the spindles Loose or missing.

You cannot beat this condo for beach access. The sand was literally at the bottom of the stairs. The unit was clean and had the basics that you need. Perfect for a no frills get away. You definitely need to bring drinking water, the tapwater has a very distinct odor.

Loved the place we stayed at. The accommodations were perfect for us. I missed not having clothes hangers but I understand why there weren’t any. The rental guide was very helpful. We only had 2 negatives. #1, we couldn’t figure out how to find the local news or regular TV programming. #2, The sofa futon was not comfortable at all . We had to bring in the outdoor chairs to get comfortable seating. Otherwise, everything else was great.

Property was well located, right on the beach, easy golf cart ride, car ride, or walk to local eateries. Quiet neighbors. Sofa/futon wasn’t very comfortable to sleep on, but manageable for 3 nights.

Pros: Location (on beach), fluffy white bath towels, new paint Cons: (abbreviated list) 1. Was overcharged and VRBO had to get 949 properties to understand. 949 refunded overcharge. 2. At arrival, no water due to broken pipe. No heads up from 949. 3. Mold on inside of refrig. 949 said "probably rust, but we can send housekeeping tomorrow." Hskpng came the next day with bleach and got rid of the mold. 4. Shower wouldn't turn off. Water ran for 4 hrs waiting for plumber. Plumber fixed, but didn't have a replacement handle, so we went without for the rest of the trip. 5. Futon is laughable as a sleeping spot. I am 5' 2" and was the only one in our group who could fit (others are over 6ft). It was tremendously uncomfortable. Bring an air mattress. Saw where 949 said to another reviewer that they agreed it was uncomfortable, but that's all that fit in the space. Not true. Plenty of room. 6. Hairdryer had broken plastic- not sure if it's safe. 7. Rust all over the top and sides of refrig. None on front. I know things rust faster in humid environments, but something is fishy there. 8. Shower is TINY. Like not even 3' wide x 3' deep. Even a bar of soap was too big for the "shelves" in the shower. 9. No bathmat- just a wooden structure that allows the water to drain. Unfortunately, in a bathroom, there isn't anywhere for the water to go except on the floor. 10. w/d are in community area that is supposed to require a code to access but lock didn't work.

Want you to know the refrigerator make a very loud screeching sound when the compressor kicks in. The couch is uncomfortable and not sturdy. The tenants above us left their howling dog alone for several hours of the day and night and sounded like it was tearing things up. It was an irritation to say the least.

Our accommodation was clean and neat. The process from booking, staying and checking out was easy and streamlined. Thank you for the lovely vacation. The stove/oven was faulty during our stay, so we battled to use it. There needs to be a little maintenance done around the property.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The condo was cute and comfortable and as advertised. I loved being able to walk out the front door and either sit on the front deck and watch the waves or walk right down to the beach and play in the ocean.

We stayed in the same unit opposite side last year. As expected it’s what we wanted. Simple, beach access, and mostly quiet. A week of relaxing, running on the beach, swimming in the gulf and reading books. My ideal getaway for me and my wife during our anniversary.

We have had 3 previous stays in Surfside, but this place is our absolute favorite. I spent almost every minute of each day either on the beach or on one of the decks so I could absorb the sounds of the surf and the wind, and even the thunderstorms. From the front door we could relax and watch the dolphins play, and wade and swim and relax on the beach just a few steps further away. Even the dog had a great time. Perfect! We'll be back.

We wish there was a key pad on the door. You could not leave to go walking early in the morning when there was only One key with a dead bolt door and the other was still asleep. There was also no hot water. But we love the location and the beach.
