Welcome to Blue Swordfish Bungalow in Velasco Shores, a small and quiet beachside neighborhood featuring 10 large lots with a beach walk over large enough to accommodate your golf carts and located right along the village's golf cart path for easy access to waterfront restaurants, food trucks, daiquiri shop, surf shops and much more!

The Space

This coastal cottage boasts tons of windows for natural light, vaulted ceilings, open concept kitchen with oversized breakfast bar and spacious living room, 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms with 3 of the bedrooms featuring en-suite baths, water filtration system, large balcony and FANTASTIC views of the beach and the Intracoastal/Bay. This setup is perfect for friends and family to come together to enjoy this seaside town and miles of beach!

Access the home electronically at 4pm on the date of your arrival with your unique lock code that we specifically give only to you via text and email. Your code is live from 4pm on your arrival date until 11am on the date of your departure.

🏝️ We (The 979 Crew) love our sleepy Surfside Beach community with plenty of sand and surf to enjoy! No touristy chain restaurants, shops or hotels. Just chillin' beach bar and grills, food (and beverage) trucks (like Surfin Rita Daiquiris To-Go), burger joints (like Pier 30 and Sharkies on the Beach) and tasty fresh seafood options (like Seahorse Bar & Grill and Beachfront Deck Bar & Grill) line the water. Surfside is your simple relaxing sandy beach, water sporting, surfing, fishing and crabbing vacation destination.

In addition, all of our homes feature luxury hotel-quality/high thread count on all sheets, bedding, and bath towels which are replaced upon every turnover including the duvet covers and shams (we've heard not every company does this, and we think that's just gross). We take clean seriously! When you rent a 979 home, you'll also receive the 'comforts of home' guest welcome starter supply of shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, tp and paper towels, dishwasher and clothes washer pods. We want your stay to be as easy as you do, and the 979 Crew aims to deliver on that commitment. We love our island guests!

🐾 PUP-FRIENDLY:
Bring Fido(s)! We welcome your furry friends (aka family members). Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are allowed at this home, subject to approval and a non-refundable pet fee of $100 per dog per stay.

WIFI/TV SERVICE:
Our properties include WIFI/Internet and TV service for your streaming services. Due to our location (Island living is a whole other way of life), service may be unpredictable or spotty, and repair times can be delayed. While we will do everything we can to ensure these items are in good working order before your arrival, please note, these services may not be as consistent as they are in your area. So grab your favorite people, ditch the electronics, and spend the day at our beautiful beaches!

979 VACATION PROPERTY SERVICES:
All 979 rental home follow local and state tax rules. Reservations may be booked up to 365 days in advance. Please send inquiry and details if more than a year out as rates and availability may not be updated. Each reservation includes applicable taxes, a cleaning fee, $1M liability protection and $10K damage insurance - and good news, No Security Deposit Required!

CANCELLATION POLICY:
For any new reservation, you may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund. Some exceptions may apply for last-minute reservations.

After that, cancel at least 30 days before your check-in and receive a refund in your original form of payment less the booking fee.

Reservations made on 3rd party channels/OTAs such as Airbnb, VRBO, Booking, Hopper etc may be subject to their terms and conditions which may be different than 979's. Please reference the site where you originally reserved your stay.

Absolutely loved this house for our family vacation! VERY short walk to the beach and the beach wasn’t super busy! Everything was exactly as described and the place was very clean upon arrival! We will be booking this house for our family vacation 2026!

We had an absolute wonderful stay at this beach house. The property was clean, beds were comfortable and the outdoor space was perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks and games. The location was ideal-just steps away from the beach, far enough from the hustle and bustle of the small town, but close enough if you have to make a quick run. I highly recommend this rental for anyone looking for a serene escape. We’ll definitely be back.

We stayed on Memorial Day weekend which is the busiest weekend of the year at Surfside beach. We were so glad that the house was so close to the beach so that we could get some good naps in during the day for our toddler grandchildren. The house was just the right size and everything was as described. We had so much fun with the family. I would definitely consider staying there again.

The floors were dirty behind the cabinet under the TV. The sofas were filthy, some of the dishes had food on them that were stored in the kitchen cabinets. The laundry room light didn't work. The pantry was dirty. One of the closets had 3 tv's and the closets had filthy pillows stored. There was a stain on a rug in one of the bathrooms. We could not watch tv in any of the rooms because we could not connect to the WIFI. They sent a maintenance guy to assist us with the living room tv because we could not connect to the WIFI, and he had to hook a ROKU up so we could have access to watch TV in the living room.

Goodness, we were not aware there were any issues with this home's cleanliness. We take clean seriously as evidenced by the other reviews. We would have gladly sent our housekeeping team back over. As for WIFI service, we aren't aware of any issues with connecting here, but we are on an island and at times it came be spotty. We're glad our maintenance manager could help you out. Sorry you couldn't find something enjoyable to mention - hopefully at the least the beach was lovely for you! We do appreciate you staying with us, Joye.

Hi I want to say that there were many positive things about this Airbnb, it had four bedrooms with four bathrooms, one mattress is very comfortable, the bedsheets were clean and the bed duvet covers were comfortable. The front porch is comfortable, for pets and children they need a gate. I do not like to leave reviews but there were some issues, the front door did not line up with the lock properly and we had to slam the door to get it to close, the thermostat was cold but you cannot lower it below 70, there were ants coming out of the outlet on the counter in the kitchen, there was a roach on the kitchen cabinet and small bugs in the kitchen sink and on the window sill when we checked in Sunday night, I mentioned this on Airbnb but no one responded, there was no instructions to turn the switch on for the dishwasher. I felt like we should have been informed about the Red Tide since it gave us respiratory problems while our family was there in Surfside Beach, Texas.

Hi Maureen, thank you for allowing us to host your stay. We appreciate the compliments, feedback and suggestions. We are bit confused on the "no response" as not only did Amber and Ashley respond to you multiple times but also Daniel our maintenance manager came by during your stay in which you spoke with him. Maybe you are referring to Airbnb vs our staff at 979? Respectfully, we/this home are located on an island with sun, salt, sand and sea breezes (plus our coastal high-humidity). Great for a beach day but tough on homes, especially exteriors. The doors do swell at times causing a bit of a mismatch, but our maintenance manager will check it out. Yes, the thermostat is set to not go lower than a certain threshold to avoid burning the AC up per all AC unit manufacturer suggestions. Perhaps you would have liked it cooler, and we're sorry about that, but the alternative is much worse having the AC break. Again, we are on the coast and nature goes with it. All our homes are on regular pest control and ants sometimes randomly show up (especially when food is left on the counter) and come through the outlets. That said, we have ant baits available for guests to use under the kitchen sink should the need arise. And again respectfully, Daniel was there to help you with this plus showed you the labeled switch for the dishwasher which was turned off. We haven't had other guests mention this, but we will add more details to the Guest Guide. Thank you again for allowing us to host you.

Accurately presented online, close proximity to the beach, great hangout area below the house, plenty of seating in living room and dinning area, and water pressure was good enough that we could take showers at the same time!

Very clean, fresh paint, wonderfully uncluttered. Nice deck. Bring your own beach towels. Boardwalk across to beach accommodated our golf cart, which was great when getting our chairs & supplies to the beach. House is on corner of road so a bit of road noise.

Overall house was very nice. The major problem for our stay was the door was not able to be locked when leaving the property. You can lock the door from the inside but not from the outside. So when we would go out to eat the door had to be left unlocked. This is a security risk that I am sure their insurance doesn't cover. The dishwasher racks also have rust on them and needs to be replaced. So not a 5 star for me,due to the issues

Perfect for a group of 10. Every room had its own bathroom which was so nice! Walking distance to beach. Would stay again. Only issue was that checkout was at 11am. Lock code on door was supposed to work until 11am. Code stopped working before 9 am. Got locked out of house while taking out some trash. Luckily someone was inside to let me in. Other than that, had no complaints.

I only stayed for a weekend but will be coming back for a week long stay! The house is amazing and love the updates! Great location and easy access to the beach. Highly recommend this house for any size family. My friends and I enjoyed this house immensely! Again we will be back soon!

Considerate host, stayed 12 people for 3 nights. Overall it was great! Except the mosquito situation outdoors is not good, especially at night. Pack lots of repellent. An upstairs grill would be awesome!

The Blue swordfish was a beautiful spacious house. I loved that every room had their own bathroom. Everything was very clean. Enjoyed after every shower the nice towels. Perfect after a long day at the beach.

We stay at surfside yearly , The property was very nice and location was great and beach was clean and easy access to beach ..it’s a great spot for kids with cul-de-sac road so not much traffic! Owner was very responsive on questions we had.. also we loved the professional clean sheets and towels

The location was perfect—just a short, easy walk (about a block) to the beach, which often felt like our own private stretch of sand. The neighbors were friendly, and the entire area had a peaceful, welcoming vibe.The host was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed for a smooth stay. This was a great beach house. Location was perfect. House was perfect because every room had a bathroom. The smell of the water was the only issue when taking a shower. Space was great for our vehicles and boat. BBQ pits provided were rusty. This is a beach home I would book again. Thank you for a welcome stay.

We stay at surfside yearly , The property was very nice and location was great and beach was clean and easy access to beach ..it’s a great spot for kids with cul-de-sac road so not much traffic! Owner was very responsive on questions we had.. also we loved the professional clean sheets and towels

We had a wonderful stay at this Surfside beach house! The home was clean, comfortable, and stocked with all the amenities we could ask for. The location was perfect—just a short, easy walk (about a block) to the beach, which often felt like our own private stretch of sand. The neighbors were friendly, and the entire area had a peaceful, welcoming vibe.The host was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed for a smooth stay. The check-in process was a breeze, and checkout was even easier. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We’ll definitely be back—it was a perfect trip!

This was a great beach house. Location was perfect. House was perfect because every room had a bathroom. The smell of the water was the only issue when taking a shower. Space was great for our vehicles and boat. BBQ pits provided were rusty. This is a beach home I would book again. Thank you for a welcome stay.
